Kratek odgovor

The Epson XP-15000 is experimental in ZoroPrint, on Mac, Windows and Linux. The RIP drives it, but its head offsets follow Gutenprint and nobody has confirmed them on a physical XP-15000 yet. You need a DTF conversion with white in the red and grey channels, and a channel test on film. Please send us the photo.

What “experimental” means for the XP-15000

An experimental profile comes from the nearest documented source, not from a printer we have tested. For the XP-15000 the source is Gutenprint: model 132 and its claria_xp ink group. The head geometry and the head offsets follow those values. A physical channel test has not confirmed them yet.

The ET-8550 and the L8180 print with the same set of print modes, and those two are validated on real hardware. The open questions on the XP-15000 are its head offsets and its red channel. The XP-15000 is on every competitor’s printer list, so we want to close them soon.

You can help. Print the channel test on film, take a photo and send it to us. Owners who do get a founder seat.

Converting the XP-15000: red and grey carry the white

The XP-15000 has six inks: cyan, magenta, yellow, photo black, red and grey. The colour layer of a DTF print needs only cyan, magenta, yellow and black. So a DTF kit puts white in the red and grey channels, and the photo black prints the K. ZoroPrint starts the XP-15000 with this layout.

Red is the unusual channel. In our profile it is Epson’s Claria red, colour code 7. No other printer on our list uses that code. This is one more reason to check the mapping with the channel test before a real job.

The XP-15000 takes cartridges, not tanks. The XP-15000 vs L1800 guide explains what that means for a conversion. For the hardware steps, follow your kit’s instructions. We give no firmware advice. You convert at your own risk, and the printer loses Epson’s warranty.

  1. Load a strip of film and choose Ink settings → Print channel test.
  2. Check blocks 1 and 2. They are red and grey, so both must print white.
  3. Check blocks 3 to 6. They must print magenta, cyan, black and yellow.
  4. Fix any difference with “Wrong colours? Diagnose” in the Printer tab.
  5. Send us a photo of the strip, also when everything looks right.

The table shows the layout and the head offsets the profile uses today. The offsets are Gutenprint’s claria_xp values, not measurements.

Starting settings for the XP-15000

Use the RIP defaults for the first prints. Change one value at a time.

We have no measured bidirectional correction for the XP-15000, so the RIP starts at 0 in every mode. If vertical lines look doubled, switch to Expert mode, print the head alignment test and enter the result in “Head gap (bidi)”.

What can go wrong on the XP-15000

  • Wrong colours. The channel codes come from Gutenprint, not from a print on a real XP-15000. If your strip shows a different order, the “Wrong colours?” assistant fixes the mapping.
  • Channels out of register. On the L8180 we measured the head offsets with a head-alignment chart. On the XP-15000 we have not done that yet. If the white and the colour look shifted against each other, send us a photo of a fine-text print.
  • Thin lines across the print. That is banding. Work through the banding guide.
  • White that settles. White pigment settles in cartridges too. Shake them every day and follow white ink care.

Compatibility

  • macOS 13 or later, including Apple Silicon. Windows 10/11 64-bit. Linux x64.
  • USB, or the network on raw port 9100. No Epson driver for the job. See connecting the printer.
  • No dongle. The licence is on your account.
  • The Free plan needs an internet connection for each print. Paid plans print up to 30 days offline. The channel test never uses a Free job.

Pogosta vprašanja

Can I use the XP-15000 for real jobs today?
The RIP drives it, but the head offsets are not confirmed. Check the channel test and a pressed test transfer before you sell work from it.
Why do the red and grey channels carry the white?
A DTF print needs cyan, magenta, yellow, black and white. Red and grey are the two channels the colour layer does not use.
What do I get for sending the channel test photo?
A founder seat. Your photo is what we need to confirm the profile and take it out of experimental.
Should I buy an XP-15000 or an L1800?
Read the comparison guide first. Today the L1800 profile is supported and the XP-15000 profile is experimental.
