This is my 1st time using zoroprint and I need to setup my printer and OFFNova ICC to work with my Epson 8550 printer.

  • The ICC profile doesn’t control the ink order. You need to match the ink channels in ZoroPrint to your ET-8550’s DTF conversion setup. Try running a channel test first.

Welcome, Larisa! Short answer first: an ICC profile has no ink order in it. It only turns the colours on your screen into amounts of cyan, magenta, yellow and black. Which tank holds which ink is a separate setting in ZoroPrint's Printer tab. So set up the printer, check the ink order on a strip of film, and then load the OFFNOVA profile.

1. Connect the ET-8550

  1. Connect it by USB, or over the network. On the network, switch on RAW printing (port 9100) in the printer first: connecting the printer.
  2. In the Printer tab, choose Epson ET-8550.

2. Set the ink order and check it on film

  1. Printer tab → Ink settings → Inks in the printer → Converted for DTF. On the ET-8550 that means white in the photo black (PB) and grey (GY) tanks, and black, cyan, magenta and yellow in the other four. That is the usual ET-8550 DTF layout. If your kit's instructions put the white somewhere else, follow the kit.
  2. Load a strip of film and press Print channel test. The blocks are numbered in the order of the tanks on the front of the printer: 1 black, 2 white, 3 cyan, 4 yellow, 5 magenta, 6 white.
  3. If a block prints the wrong colour, press Wrong colours? Diagnose in the Printer tab and enter what you saw. It fixes the mapping for you. More in the channel test guide.

3. Load the OFFNOVA profile

  1. Download it from OFFNOVA's resource center (Direct To Film → DTF Ink ICC Profile). It comes as a .rar file, so unpack it first. Windows 11 opens .rar itself; on older Windows use 7-Zip, and on a Mac use The Unarchiver. Inside is one file: 1440x1440_1390_1800 DTF.icc.
  2. In ZoroPrint, open the Colour tab. Under Colour management (ICC), press + next to Output profile (printer) and choose that file.
  3. The note under the list should now read "Profile active: 1440x1440_1390 DTF (ICC v2.4)". We checked this file: it is a proper CMYK printer profile and ZoroPrint reads it.
  4. Save a preset with it (Presets → type a name → Save). ↺ Back to DTF standard switches back to ZoroPrint's built-in profile, and your preset brings OFFNOVA's back in one click.

Two things to know about this profile

  • OFFNOVA made it for the Epson R1390 and L1800 at 1440×1440, not for the ET-8550, which has a different print head. Treat it as a starting point: print the same test design once with it and once with the built-in ZoroPrint DTF profile, press both, and keep the one that looks right on the shirt.
  • In solid black it asks for almost 400% ink (all four colours near 100%). Leave the ink limits on DTF standard: the total ink limit is what keeps those areas from flooding the film.

More detail: converting an Epson ET-8550 to DTF, and ICC profiles for DTF, which now has a section on importing your ink supplier's profile.

If anything comes out wrong, post a photo of your channel test strip here and we'll take it from there.
