Which Epson printers can be converted to DTF? The models ZoroPrint supports, and how sure we are

Almost every desktop DTF printer is an Epson photo printer with a six-colour head. Two things decide whether a model is a good choice: where the white goes, and whether your RIP can drive it. This guide lists the models ZoroPrint supports and says how well we have checked each one.

Singkatnya
  1. Pick a model from the validated list if you can
  2. Check where the white goes on that model and which kit you need
  3. Read the model’s page for its settings, then run the channel test on film

What makes a printer easy to convert

A DTF print needs only four colour inks, so the printer needs at least two more channels for white. Epson photo printers have them: light cyan and light magenta, photo black and grey, or red and grey. Two channels of white double the white flow and let the RIP print colour and white in one pass. The other thing you need is a RIP that sends raw commands to the printer instead of the Epson driver.

Supported

  • Epson L805 (A4) and L800 (A4, USB only): white in the cyan and magenta tanks, with cyan and magenta moved to the light tanks. The L805 is the printer ZoroPrint was born on.
  • Epson L1800 (A3+): the same layout as the L805, with a wider carriage and roll film. The most converted DTF printer in the world.
  • Epson R1390, R1400 / 1410 and Artisan 1430 / Stylus Photo 1500W (all A3+): the same head family as the L1800, with white in the light cyan and light magenta tanks.
  • Epson ET-8550 and L8180 (A3+): one printer with two names, with white in the photo black and grey tanks. Validated on real hardware in September 2026. See converting the ET-8550.

Experimental

Experimental means the head geometry is deduced from documents and not yet confirmed on hardware. These printers can work. Expect to run the channel test and to adjust a setting or two.

  • Epson L8050 (A4) and L18050 (A3+): the newer 180-nozzle successors of the L805 and the L1800.
  • Epson ET-8500 and L8160 (A4): the A4 siblings of the ET-8550 and the L8180.
  • Epson XP-15000 (A3+): white in the red and grey tanks. It is on every competitor’s list, and its head offsets between channels are still being confirmed.
  • Epson SC-P700 (A3+) and SC-P900 (A2+): premium 10-channel printers, with white in the light channels. Very few RIPs support them.

Not supported yet

Other Epson models are on our list, among them the SureColor P400, P600 and P800, the Stylus Photo R1800 to R3000, the ET-18100 and the ET-5800. We give no date.

Roll-fed DTF printers with XP600, i3200 or i1600 heads are a different class. Their control boards (Hoson, Senyang, BYHX) use their own protocol, not ESC/P2, so ZoroPrint cannot drive them.

How to choose

  • Smallest and cheapest to run: an A4 L805. It suits logos, patches and small gang sheets.
  • Gang sheets and roll film: an A3+ L1800. It is the best known, so kits and help are easy to find.
  • A newer A3+ head that is already validated: the ET-8550 or L8180.
  • Deciding between the XP-15000 and the L1800? Read XP-15000 vs L1800 for DTF.

Pick a model, then open its page for the white layout and the starting settings: all supported printers. To convert an L805 or an L1800, see the conversion guide. Download ZoroPrint and check your model.
