Keeping white DTF ink alive in a converted Epson

White DTF ink is titanium dioxide in suspension. Left alone it settles in the tank, thickens in the lines and dries in the nozzles. Every printer that “suddenly stopped printing white” skipped the routine below.

要点
  1. Shake or stir the white tanks every day before printing
  2. Print a nozzle check; clean only if the white rows are broken
  3. Never let the printer sit idle for more than 2–3 days without a short white print

Daily

  • Before the first print, agitate the white gently: bottles end over end for 30–60 s, tanks or cartridges connected to the head rocked slowly for about 30 s. No hard shaking — it makes bubbles. Or run the tank agitator if your kit has one.
  • Print a nozzle check on film. If white rows are complete, print. If not, one head cleaning, then check again. Do not chain five cleanings: you waste ink and flood the pad.
  • In production, agitate again during the day: sources range from every 30–60 minutes to every 2–3 hours of printing; heavy white work needs the shorter end. More in keeping white ink from clogging.

Idle days

  • Print a small white strip (ZoroPrint: Add purge strip) every 2–3 days even if there are no orders.
  • Going away for a week or more: flush the white lines with cleaning solution or keep the printer on a timer that prints a purge strip daily.

Signs it is getting late

  • Fine white lines missing in the nozzle check → clog forming: clean now.
  • White prints grey/thin → pigment settled or ink limit too low: stir, check the W density.
  • Thick, uneven white with banding → old ink: replace the tank contents.
