In short
- Linearise every channel and set the total ink limit first
- Print the target through ZoroPrint with no profile, powder, cure and press it on white fabric
- Measure with i1Profiler / ArgyllCMS, build the profile, load it in the RIP, verify with a swatch
Before the target
- Print a clean nozzle check. A missing nozzle during the target is baked into the profile forever.
- Linearise each channel (Colour → Linearisation) and set the total ink limit so no patch puddles. The profile describes what comes after these; changing them later invalidates it.
- Decide the white settings you will use in production (density, choke). White is not in the profile but it changes the measured colour.
Print the target
- Export a target from i1Profiler or Argyll (`targen`) as an RGB TIFF — 400–800 patches is plenty for DTF.
- Print it through ZoroPrint with ICC set to None and the exact quality, resolution and white settings you will use. Do not scale it.
- Powder, cure and press it on the fabric you sell most (white cotton is the usual baseline). Measure the pressed transfer, not the raw film — the colour changes a lot in the press.
Measure and build
- i1Profiler: Printer profiling → measure → generate. Choose “photo” or “matte” paper type, perceptual intent, v2 profile for widest compatibility.
- ArgyllCMS: `chartread`, then `colprof -v -qm -S sRGB.icc -cmt -dpp` to build an RGB output profile with a perceptual table.
- Load the .icc in ZoroPrint (Colour → ICC profile). The RIP validates it and shows the profile name when active.
Verify
Print a swatch with known values (a brand’s Pantone-to-sRGB colours) through the new profile, press it and compare under daylight. If reds are duller than expected, raise the magenta ink limit and rebuild; if darks are blocked, lower the total limit.
